Small residential pickups with minimal material generally fall at the lower end of the range, while larger commercial collections, specialty battery handling, or extended travel may fall toward the higher end. Recycling with Purpose
E-waste recycling is the process of safely collecting, dismantling, and recovering valuable materials from discarded electronic devices while preventing harmful substances from entering the environment. The process begins with the collection of old electronics such as computers, laptops, servers, phones, printers, and networking equipment from homes, businesses, or recycling centers.
Once received, all devices are inspected and sorted based on type, condition, and potential for reuse. Any equipment containing sensitive information undergoes secure data destruction through certified hard drive wiping or physical shredding to ensure complete data security and compliance.
After data destruction, reusable devices may be refurbished and prepared for resale or donation. Non-reusable electronics are dismantled into separate material streams such as plastics, glass, circuit boards, batteries, copper, aluminum, steel, and precious metals. Hazardous components like batteries, mercury-containing items, and CRT materials are carefully removed and processed according to environmental regulations.
The separated materials are then sent to specialized recycling facilities where metals and other raw materials are refined and recovered for manufacturing new products. Scrap metal generated during the process is also sorted and recycled to reduce landfill waste and conserve natural resources.

Battery Recycling Safety
Preparing Batteries for Recycling
Identify battery type (lithium-ion, lithium-polymer, lead acid, etc.) and confirm it is approved for recycling
Power down and disconnect the battery from all equipment
Remove batteries carefully using non-conductive tools when possible
For all lithium batteries insulate exposed terminals with non-conductive tape (Electrical Tape) to prevent short circuits. Terminals on lead acid batteries should not come in contact with each other.
Place each lithium battery in a separate, approved container or plastic bag.
Label containers clearly as “Lithium Battery – For Recycling”
Store batteries in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from flammable materials
Store in a secure, sturdy container to prevent batteries from being damaged.
Follow local regulations and approved recycler requirements for transport and storage
Handling Damaged or Defective Batteries
Do not handle batteries that are leaking, swollen, punctured, or excessively hot without proper PPE
Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (gloves, safety glasses, face shield if required)
Isolate damaged batteries immediately from other materials and batteries
Place damaged batteries in a fire-resistant, non-conductive container
Keep damaged batteries away from ignition sources and combustible materials
Monitor the battery for signs of thermal runaway (smoke, hissing, rapid heating)
If overheating or fire occurs, use Class D fire extinguishers, water (if approved by site policy), or follow emergency response procedures
Report damaged batteries to a supervisor and document the incident
Arrange prompt disposal through a certified lithium battery recycling or hazardous waste facility
